Tally connection alerts and notifications
Get told when a TallyPrime company goes offline, an entry is turned down or an import finishes, in the app or by email, and choose what reaches you.
Balancely tells you when something needs you. For example, a company that cannot be reached, an entry TallyPrime did not accept, or an import that has finished. Notifications show under the bell in the app. Some also come by email. You choose which kinds reach you, and where.
Which events notify you
Notifications come in kinds. Each kind goes to the people it is about. It never goes to the person who caused it. The only exceptions are results of work they started, and their own security.
| Kind | What you hear about | Who hears |
|---|---|---|
| Companies and connector | A company is connected, cannot be reached, or is back. The reason is given: connector not running, TallyPrime not open, or the company not open. A company is renamed, disconnected or removed. | Connected, offline and back: everyone who can see that company. Renamed and removed: the owner and admins. |
| Entries and imports | An entry TallyPrime did not accept. An import finished, with how many were saved, skipped as already in TallyPrime, or need a fix. Bills read, and how many need a check. | An entry not accepted: the person who saved it. Imports and bills: the person who started them, and the owner and admins. |
| Team | Invites sent. People joining, leaving or removed. Ownership moved. Two-factor sign-in made required. | The owner and admins. Ownership and the two-factor rule: everyone. A change to your own role or companies: you. |
| Plan and billing | 80% and 100% of the month’s TallyPrime entries used. Plan changes, payments received or failed, a renewal coming up, a subscription cancelled. | Usage: the owner and admins. Everything else: the owner. |
| Sign-in and security | A sign-in from a browser and address not seen in the last 30 days. Password changed or reset. Two-factor sign-in turned on, off or reset by your team. A recovery code used. Devices signed out. | Only you. |
| Setup calls | A call you booked with us, a cancellation, and reminders before it starts. | Only you. |
Owners and admins also have a kind for apps connected to the account. It is shown in the app only.
In the app and by email
Everything above shows in the app. Email is sent only for some of it. It always goes to the email you sign in with.
| Kind | Email sent |
|---|---|
| Companies and connector | To the owner, when a company cannot be reached. At most once every six hours for the same company. |
| Entries and imports | Never. These are in the app only. |
| Team | When someone joins (to the owner and admins), and to a person whose role or companies change, or who is removed. |
| Plan and billing | To the owner, at 80% and 100% of the month’s TallyPrime entries, and when a payment fails. The Firm plan has no 80% notice. You hear once when you pass the fair-use level. Nothing is blocked. |
| Sign-in and security | A sign-in from a new browser or address. |
| Setup calls | When you book or cancel a call. |
Urgent items also show on screen while you use Balancely. For example, a company that cannot be reached.
How to choose what reaches you
- 1
Open Settings and choose the Notifications tab. Or choose the settings button at the top of the bell.
- 2
Find the kind under Notify me about.
- 3
Turn the In app or Email switch on or off. It saves at once.
A dash in the Email column means we never email about that kind. Your choices are only for you. They do not change what others on the team get.
What is always sent
Sign-in and security stays on, and its switches are locked. You always hear about a new sign-in or a two-factor reset by your team, in the app and by email. You hear about a password or other two-factor change in the app.
A failed payment always reaches the owner, in the app and by email, even with Plan and billing turned off.
Read, mark and archive
From the bell
The bell shows how many are unread. Opening it marks nothing as read.
Switch between All and Unread.
Choose a notification to open its page and mark it read. For a company that cannot be reached, it opens the steps to fix it.
Choose Mark all as read to clear the count, or View all notifications for the full page.
On the notifications page
Show All, Unread, a kind, or Archived. Search with Search notifications.
Each row has Mark as read or Mark as unread, and Archive.
Mark all as read marks the whole list read. Archive read archives everything already read.
To bring back an archived item, choose Move back to inbox.
When a TallyPrime entry fails
If TallyPrime does not accept an entry, we tell the person who saved it. The notification gives TallyPrime's reason. Choose Review to open Activity History with failed entries only. Fix the entry and save it again. This is in the app only. So check the bell after saving many entries.
Common questions
How do I get alerts when Tally is not connected?
When a company cannot be reached, Balancely tells everyone who can see it and emails the owner. The message says if the connector, TallyPrime or the company is the problem.
Will I get a notification when a Tally entry fails?
Yes, in the app. The person who saved the entry is told it failed, with the reason. They can fix it from Activity History. This is not emailed.
How do I stop notification emails?
Open Settings, Notifications, and turn off the Email switch for each kind you do not want. Sign-in and security emails stay on, and the owner still gets an email when a payment fails.
Why did I not get an email when my company went offline?
The offline email goes only to the account owner, and at most once every six hours for the same company. Everyone else who can see the company is told in the app.
How long are notifications kept?
For 90 days after the last update, read, unread or archived.
