Import a bank statement into TallyPrime
Save receipts, payments and contras in TallyPrime from a bank or credit card statement in Excel, CSV or PDF, or a scan or photo of one. The balance is checked first and no line is saved twice.
The Bank Statement Import screen reads the statement you download from net banking or your card account. It checks that it adds up. Then it saves each line in TallyPrime as a receipt, payment, contra or journal. Your rules and past choices choose the other ledger. AI suggests one for the other lines. Lines TallyPrime already has are left out. So nothing is saved twice.
Before you start
The Balancely Connector is running. Your company is open in TallyPrime.
The bank is a ledger under Bank Accounts or Bank OD A/c. A credit card can also be a ledger with "card" in its name, under a liability, creditor or loan group.
You have the statement from net banking or the card account, as Excel, CSV or PDF. A scanned PDF or a phone photo of a paper statement also works. AI reads it. The Free plan has 100 scanned pages free, once.
Only Owner, Admin and Accountant roles can use this page. Viewers cannot open it.
Which statement files work
| File | Notes |
|---|---|
| Excel (.xls, .xlsx) | The usual net banking download. Remove any password in Excel first. |
| CSV (.csv, .txt, .tsv) | Comma, tab, semicolon or pipe separated. |
| A PDF with real text, as net banking gives. A PDF locked with a password cannot be read as it is. Open it in Chrome or Edge with its password and press Ctrl + P. Choose Save as PDF, and upload that copy. | |
| Scanned PDF | A PDF that is only pictures of the pages, up to 30 pages. AI reads it (see below). |
| Photo (.jpg, .png, .heic) | A phone photo of one page of a statement. AI reads it (see below). A blurry photo does not work. |
Excel, CSV and text PDFs can be up to 10 MB. A scan or photo can be up to 20 MB.
Upload the statement
- 1
In Balancely, open Accounts, then Bank Statement Import. Choose the company at the top.
- 2
Under Bank or card ledger in TallyPrime, choose the ledger this statement is for.
- 3
Drop the file on Upload your statement. On a phone, Take a photo opens the camera.
Scanned statements and photos
AI reads a PDF with only pictures of the pages, or a photo of a statement. While it reads, the page shows Reading the scanned statement… and the page it is on. Stop reading cancels it. It reads the date, narration, cheque or reference number, withdrawal, deposit and balance of every line. It also reads the bank, the last four digits of the account, the period, and the opening and closing balance.
We then check the running balance line by line, from the opening balance to the closing balance. Then the statement goes to Map & check like any other file, marked Read with AI from its scanned pages.
We never change amounts for you. If a figure was read wrong and the balance still does not add up, the balance check names the row and the page of the scan. Nothing can be saved. Upload a clearer scan, or download the Excel or CSV statement.
A credit card scan is checked against the card's own summary, the same as a downloaded card statement.
A line saved from a scan is not saved again from the Excel file, and the other way round.
We do not keep the file. It is read and then dropped. Our AI provider does not use the pages to train its models.
| Plan | Scanned pages a month |
|---|---|
| Free | 100 free, once |
| Business | 100 |
| Professional | 500 |
| Firm | 2,000 |
Each page of a scan, and each photo, counts as one page. Purchase bills read with AI use the same pages. The count starts again at midnight on the 1st of each month, India time. Pages count when the reading starts. A page read a second time does not count again. A reading that fails, or that you stop, does not count at all. Uploading the same scan again counts its pages again. When the pages run out, the page says so and links to the plans.
Match the columns and check the balance
Balancely finds the heading row and guesses each column. Check them under Which column is which:
- 1
Under Statement of, choose A bank account or A credit card.
- 2
Check the Heading row and how Dates are written: day first, month first or year first.
- 3
Under Amounts, choose separate withdrawal and deposit columns, or One amount with Dr / Cr.
- 4
Match Date, Narration and the amount columns. If the file has Cheque / reference no., Value date and Balance, they are used too.
- 5
Read the Balance check, then choose Check against TallyPrime.
We remember the layout for that bank. So the next statement matches its columns on its own.
The statement may show an account number, and the bank ledger in TallyPrime may have an A/c No. in its bank details. Then we compare their last digits. If they differ, the page stops. It shows both numbers, with only their last four digits. Choose the right ledger, or confirm the statement is for the ledger you chose. If either has no number, nothing is checked.
| Balance check | What it means |
|---|---|
| The statement adds up | Every line's balance follows from the one before, and any totals the bank printed match. |
| The balances do not add up | Nothing can be saved. It names the first row that does not add up, and for a scan, its page. Check the withdrawal, deposit and balance columns, or download the statement again. |
| The balance could not be checked | The file has no balance column. So we cannot spot a missing or extra line. Match the balance column if there is one. |
Review the lines
Each line is checked against your bank ledger in TallyPrime. Then each line goes into one tab.
| Tab | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ready | Has an other ledger and is not in TallyPrime. Ticked to save, except an AI suggestion, which waits for you. | Untick any you do not want. Tick an AI suggestion to accept it. |
| Needs a ledger | No rule, past choice or AI suggestion fits. | Choose the Other ledger, or choose Put in Suspense. |
| Check first | TallyPrime has an entry on that date for the same amount, or a card bill a few days away. Or a line saved before was deleted since, or never confirmed. | Look in TallyPrime. Tick it only if it really is missing. A line never confirmed cannot be ticked. |
| Already in books | Saved from here before, or a voucher has the same amount and the same reference or narration. | Nothing. It is not saved again. |
| All | Every line. |
For each line, choose Entry type. For a bank, choose Receipt for money in or Payment for money out. Choose Contra for cash or your own banks, and Journal for items like bank charges.
To add a word before the bank's narration, enter it in Start each narration with. Then choose Save with the count, for example Save 42 entries in TallyPrime. Up to 500 are saved at a time.
Rules and remembered ledgers
The other ledger for a line is chosen in this order:
- 1
A ledger you choose on the line.
- 2
The first rule that fits. Rules are checked from top to bottom. You can move them up or down.
- 3
A ledger remembered for the line's UPI ID or payee name.
- 4
Cash, for cash deposits and withdrawals, when the company has one cash ledger.
- 5
An AI suggestion, only for the lines none of the above covers. It never replaces a rule or a remembered ledger.
Add a rule
Choose Rules, then Add a rule. Under When, choose Narration has, Narration starts with, UPI ID is, or Amount between. If you need them, add an amount range and money in or out. Then choose Ledger to use and Entry type. Rules work for every bank statement of the company.
When you choose a ledger on a line, we offer it for similar lines with Use for and the count. You can also choose Save as a rule. Once you save, we remember a ledger you chose by hand for that UPI ID or payee. See them under Remembered. Choose Forget to remove one.
AI ledger suggestions
On a paid plan, AI suggests the other ledger after the check against TallyPrime. It does this for each new line that no rule or remembered ledger covers. It chooses only from your company’s ledgers in TallyPrime. AI suggests a ledger only when it is likely right. If not, the line stays empty. Credit card bill payments are left for you. Nothing is saved until you choose Save.
| What you see | What it means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| AI suggestion under the Other ledger box | A suggested ledger, filled in but not ticked. Point at the label to see why. | Tick the line to accept it, or choose another ledger. |
| Accept all high-confidence suggestions | Accepts the suggestions most likely to be right, all at once. | Check them, then save as usual. |
How it learns
When you save a line with the AI's ledger, or with one you chose, we remember that ledger for the line's UPI ID or payee. Next time, the same payee gets that ledger on its own. So you need suggestions less and less. See and forget them under Rules, Remembered.
What happens in TallyPrime
| Save as | Voucher in TallyPrime |
|---|---|
| Receipt | Money in: received into the bank ledger from the other ledger. |
| Payment | Money out: paid from the bank ledger to the other ledger. |
| Contra | Between the bank ledger and cash, or another of your bank ledgers. |
| Journal | The other ledger debited or credited against the bank ledger. |
The date and amount are the statement's. The narration is the bank's. On receipts and payments, the cheque number or UTR goes in as the reference.
For a bank, receipts and payments also have the cheque number or UTR on the bank line, and the statement date as the bank date. So they are already reconciled. See Bank Reconciliation.
For a card ledger under a liability group, spends and refunds are saved as Journals. Its bill, paid from your bank, is a Payment from the bank. A card under Bank OD A/c works like a bank.
If you use Put in Suspense and the company has no suspense ledger, we add a ledger named Suspense under Suspense A/c.
Entries already in TallyPrime are never changed or removed.
Each entry saved in TallyPrime counts towards your plan's TallyPrime entries for the month. A Suspense ledger added here counts too. Reading and checking do not.
How it never saves twice
A line saved from here before is held back, even if statements overlap or you download one again. A line may have a UTR, cheque or reference number already on a voucher of the same amount, within three days. It shows as Already in books.
When something goes wrong
Each heading is the message as Balancely shows it. Find yours, or search every message on Fix a problem.
“march.xlsx is ready. Choose its bank or card ledger above, and it is read straight away.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Upload step, in the blue box Choose the bank account.
The file was dropped before a bank or card ledger was chosen. The file is kept, and the ledger list opens so you can choose one. Nothing was read or saved in TallyPrime yet.
- 1
Choose the ledger in the Bank box. The file is read straight away. You do not need to upload it again.
- 2
If your bank ledger is not in the list, see no bank ledger found.
- 3
To drop a different file instead, choose Remove.
It worked when: The page moves on to Map & check and shows the first lines of the statement.
Next time: Choose the ledger first. Its column layout is then remembered for the next statement.
“This PDF is locked with a password, which cannot be typed here. Open it in Chrome or Edge with its password, press Ctrl + P, choose Save as PDF, and upload the saved copy. Or download the Excel or CSV statement from net banking.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import or Accounts > Bank Reconciliation, Upload step, in the red box This file could not be read.
Most banks email statements as PDFs with a password. Balancely has no box to enter that password, so it cannot open the file. A copy saved through Print has no password and reads normally. Nothing was read or saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Sign in to net banking and download the same period as Excel or CSV. This is the easiest and most reliable file.
- 2
Only have the PDF? Open it in Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge. Enter its password.
- 3
Press Ctrl + P, choose Save as PDF as the printer, and save the copy.
- 4
Upload that new copy. It has no password.
It worked when: The page moves on to Map & check with the statement lines.
Next time: Download the Excel or CSV statement from net banking each time. Do not use the emailed PDF.
“Pick the narration column first.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Map & check step, in the Balance check card. Check against TallyPrime stays greyed out.
Balancely could not tell which column holds the date, narration or amounts. Or it found no lines with the columns as they are set. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Under Which column is which, choose the column for each field the message names: Date, Narration, and Withdrawal and Deposit.
- 2
Does the file have one amount column with Dr or Cr beside it? Choose One amount with Dr / Cr under Amounts. Then choose Amount and Dr / Cr.
- 3
Check that Heading row is the row with the column names. It should not be a title or address row.
- 4
Change Dates are written (day first, month first or year first) until lines appear below.
- 5
Does the message say there are no transactions? Download a period from net banking that has some.
It worked when: The lines show in the table and the Balance check says The statement adds up.
Next time: The layout is remembered for that ledger. The next statement from the same bank sets its columns by itself.
“Needs a ledger”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, the Needs a ledger tab and the status of each line.
Nothing fits this line: no ledger you chose, rule, remembered payee, cash ledger or AI suggestion. So Balancely does not know the other side of the entry. These lines are not saved in TallyPrime until you choose a ledger.
- 1
Open the Needs a ledger tab.
- 2
In Other ledger, choose the ledger the money came from or went to. For example, a customer, a supplier or Bank Charges.
- 3
Does Balancely show Use for with a count? Choose it to use the same ledger on similar lines.
- 4
For payees you see every month, choose Save as a rule.
- 5
Not sure yet? Choose Put in Suspense. Correct the entry in TallyPrime later.
It worked when: The line moves to Ready and is ticked to save.
Next time: After you save, the ledger you chose is remembered for that UPI ID or payee. So these lines get fewer each month. See rules and remembered ledgers.
“TallyPrime has a Payment with Office Rent on this date for the same amount”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, the Check first tab. These lines are not ticked.
TallyPrime already has an entry that may be this same line. It may have the same date and amount, or be a card bill a few days apart. Or the line was saved from here before and later removed from TallyPrime. These lines are not saved in TallyPrime unless you tick them.
- 1
Open the Day Book in TallyPrime for the date shown. Find the entry with that amount.
- 2
If the entry is the same bank transaction, leave the line unticked. Nothing more to do.
- 3
If it is a different transaction that only has the same amount, tick the line here.
- 4
Does the note say TallyPrime no longer has it? If you removed that entry by mistake, tick the line to save it again.
- 5
Choose Save when the lines you want are ticked.
It worked when: Choose Check again. Lines that went in now show under Already in books.
“Already in books”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, the Already in books tab.
The line was saved from here before. Or TallyPrime has a voucher with the same amount and the same UTR, cheque number, reference or narration. It is left out so it is not entered twice. These lines are not saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Nothing is needed. Read the note on the line to see which voucher it matched.
- 2
Think it is matched wrongly? Open that voucher in TallyPrime. Compare the date, amount and reference.
- 3
Is it really a separate payment with the same reference? Enter it by hand on the Receipts or Payments form under Accounts.
Next time: You can safely upload a statement that overlaps or was downloaded again. Lines already in are always left out. See how it never posts twice.
“This statement looks like it is for another account”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Map & check step, in the yellow box at the top. Check against TallyPrime stays greyed out.
The account number on the statement does not match the A/c No. on the ledger you chose. The box shows only the last four digits of each number. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Look at the account number on the statement and on your bank ledger in TallyPrime (Alter Ledger, Bank Account Details, A/c No.).
- 2
Chose the wrong ledger? Choose the right one under Statement is for. The box goes away when the numbers match.
- 3
Is the statement really for this ledger? For example, the bank changed the account number. Choose It is for and the ledger name.
- 4
If the A/c No. in TallyPrime is wrong, correct it there, then upload the statement again.
It worked when: The yellow box goes away and Check against TallyPrime can be chosen.
Next time: Enter the A/c No. on each bank ledger in TallyPrime. If the statement or ledger has no account number, nothing is checked.
“No bank or card ledger found in TallyPrime. Add one under Bank Accounts in TallyPrime.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Upload step, under the Bank or card ledger in TallyPrime box. The box cannot be opened.
The company open in TallyPrime has no ledger under Bank Accounts or Bank OD A/c, and no card ledger. Does it say the ledgers could not be read? Then TallyPrime could not be reached at that moment. Nothing was read or saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Does it say could not be read? Make sure the connector is open and TallyPrime has this company open. Then choose Try again in the red box.
- 2
Otherwise, in TallyPrime go to Gateway of Tally > Create > Ledger. Create the bank ledger under Bank Accounts. For an overdraft or cash credit, use Bank OD A/c.
- 3
For a credit card, create a ledger with Card in its name. Put it under Sundry Creditors, Current Liabilities or Loans (Liability).
- 4
Reload the Bank Statement Import page in your browser so the list updates.
It worked when: The new ledger shows in Bank or card ledger in TallyPrime.
“This Excel file has a password. Open it in Excel, remove the password, save it and upload it again.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import or Accounts > Bank Reconciliation, Upload step, in the red box This file could not be read.
The Excel file (.xls or .xlsx) is locked with a password. Balancely has no box to enter it. Nothing was read or saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Open the file in Excel and enter its password.
- 2
Go to File > Info > Protect Workbook > Encrypt with Password.
- 3
Clear the password box and choose OK.
- 4
Save the file as Excel Workbook (.xlsx).
- 5
Upload the saved file again.
It worked when: The page moves on to Map & check.
Next time: If your bank lets you, download the statement without a password, or as CSV.
“This PDF could not be opened. Download it again, or download the Excel or CSV statement instead.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import or Accounts > Bank Reconciliation, Upload step, in the red box This file could not be read.
The PDF is damaged or empty. Or its text cannot be read. Nothing was read or saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Download the statement from net banking again; a download that was cut short gives the first message.
- 2
Better, download the same period as Excel or CSV.
- 3
Upload the new file.
It worked when: The page moves on to Map & check.
“This photo is too blurry to read. Take it again in good light, holding the phone steady over the page.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Upload step, in the red box This file could not be read.
The photo or scan could not be used: it is blurry, damaged, empty, or not a picture or PDF. Nothing was read, and no scanned pages were counted.
- 1
Lay the page flat in daylight or under a bright light. Keep the whole page in the frame.
- 2
Hold the phone steady and straight above the page, then take the photo again.
- 3
On an iPhone, does the photo not open? Share it as a JPEG. Or set Settings > Camera > Formats to Most Compatible.
- 4
Upload one page per photo.
It worked when: The page shows Reading the scanned statement… and then Map & check.
Next time: An Excel or CSV download from net banking needs no photo and uses no scanned pages.
“No transactions could be read from this statement. Check that it is a bank or card statement and that the pages are clear, then upload it again.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Upload step, in the red box This file could not be read, after Reading the scanned statement….
A scanned PDF or photo was being read with AI. The reading did not finish. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime. Pages of a failed reading do not count on your plan.
- 1
Wait a minute and upload the same file again. This clears the busy, lost-connection and still-reading messages.
- 2
For No transactions could be read, scan each page again more clearly. Or photograph one page at a time. For too much on it, photograph that page in two halves, top and bottom.
- 3
For would not read this statement, upload a file with only the statement pages. Leave out covering letters and other papers.
- 4
If it fails again, download the statement from net banking as Excel or CSV. It is read at once and uses no scanned pages.
- 5
Does the message say a problem on our side? Contact us. Meanwhile, use the Excel or CSV statement.
It worked when: The page moves on to Map & check, marked Read with AI from the scanned pages.
“We found no heading row with a date, narration and amounts. Check this is the statement file from net banking.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Upload step, in the red box This file could not be read.
Near the top of the file there is no row of column names such as Date, Narration, Withdrawal and Deposit. Without it, you cannot choose the columns by hand either. Nothing was read or saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Check the file is the full statement. It should not be a summary, a passbook print or an email export.
- 2
Download the statement again from net banking as Excel or CSV.
- 3
Made the file yourself? Add one heading row near the top. Use names such as Date, Narration, Withdrawal, Deposit and Balance.
- 4
Upload the file again.
It worked when: The page moves on to Map & check.
“Row 18 has an amount in both the withdrawal and the deposit column.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Map & check step, red box rows could not be read. Nothing can be saved.
Some rows do not make sense with the columns as set. For example, an amount on both sides, an amount that is not a number, or a date in another format. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Look at the row number named, in the table below or in the file itself.
- 2
Check that Withdrawal and Deposit are not set to the same column. Neither should be set to Balance.
- 3
Date cannot be read? Change Dates are written to the order your bank uses.
- 4
If the row in the file itself is wrong, download the statement from net banking again.
It worked when: The red box goes away and the Balance check says The statement adds up.
“The balances do not add up, so nothing can be saved”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Map & check step (red box in Balance check), and the footer of Check & save.
Each line's balance must follow from the one before. At the row named it does not. A line may be missing, repeated or read into the wrong column. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Check the Withdrawal, Deposit and Balance columns. Swapped withdrawal and deposit columns are the usual cause.
- 2
If the file has one amount column, choose One amount with Dr / Cr under Amounts.
- 3
Check that Heading row is right, so no line above or below is left out.
- 4
Download the full statement again; a missing page or an edited row breaks the balance.
- 5
For a scan, compare the row with the page named. Then upload a clearer scan, or the Excel or CSV statement.
It worked when: The Balance check says The statement adds up and Check against TallyPrime can be chosen.
“The statement does not add up, so nothing can be saved”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Map & check step, red box for a credit card statement.
A card statement has no balance on each line. So it is checked against its own summary of opening due, payments and closing due. The lines read do not add up to that summary. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Check that Statement of is set to A credit card.
- 2
Check the amount and Dr / Cr columns: payments and refunds must be credits, purchases and charges debits.
- 3
Download the statement again from the card account, so no page is missing.
It worked when: The box says The card statement adds up.
“The balance could not be checked”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Map & check step, yellow box in Balance check. You can still save.
The file has no balance column, or a card statement has no summary. So a missing or extra line would not be noticed. Nothing has been saved in TallyPrime yet.
- 1
If the file has a balance column, choose it under Balance in Which column is which.
- 2
Otherwise compare the money in and money out totals with net banking or the card account.
- 3
When they agree, choose Check against TallyPrime and save as usual.
Next time: Download the statement format with a balance column. Most banks offer it.
“TallyPrime could not be read”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, in place of the lines, with Try again.
Balancely could not get your bank ledger from TallyPrime. The text under the title gives the reason. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
Make sure the TallyPrime computer is on and the connector is open. TallyPrime must have this company open.
- 2
Close any message box open in TallyPrime.
- 3
Does it say TallyPrime was asked for a lot? Wait a minute. Close other Balancely tabs that show reports.
- 4
Choose Try again.
- 5
For a statement of a year or more, upload a shorter period.
It worked when: The tabs Ready, Needs a ledger, Check first and Already in books appear.
Next time: See Connector and TallyPrime for each connection message.
“This ledger is not in TallyPrime. Choose another ledger.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, in red under Other ledger. The line cannot be ticked.
This ledger came from a rule, a remembered payee or your choice. It is not in this company in TallyPrime. It may be renamed or removed, or in another company. This line is not saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
In Other ledger on that line, choose a ledger that exists.
- 2
Did a rule set it? Choose Rules and open that rule. Choose the right ledger in Ledger to use.
- 3
If it was remembered, choose Rules, then Remembered, and Forget that payee.
- 4
If the ledger should exist, create it in TallyPrime first. Then choose it on the line.
It worked when: The red text goes away and the line can be ticked.
“AI suggestions are not available right now. Choose the ledgers yourself.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, grey line or blue box above the lines.
AI could not suggest ledgers this time. Or you are on the Free plan. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime. The lines stay under Needs a ledger.
- 1
Choose the Other ledger on those lines yourself.
- 2
Use Use for and Save as a rule. The same payees then get their ledger by themselves next time.
- 3
Try again later. Upload the statement again. Lines already saved are left out.
- 4
On the Free plan, the owner can move to a paid plan under Plan & Billing. See Plans and billing.
Next time: Every ledger you save is remembered for that UPI ID or payee. So fewer lines need AI each month.
“Choose a ledger.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Rules window, under the rule form. Save stays greyed out.
The rule is not complete yet: it needs a ledger, and words, a UPI ID or an amount range to look for. Nothing was saved, here or in TallyPrime.
- 1
Choose the ledger in Ledger to use.
- 2
Under When, enter the words or UPI ID to look for. Or choose Amount between and enter the amounts.
- 3
Write amounts as plain numbers, for example 1500, with the smaller one in from.
- 4
If the company already has 300 rules, remove ones you no longer use.
It worked when: The rule shows in the list. Lines that fit it get their ledger by themselves.
“This matches an entry already sent to this company on 12 Oct 2026 (TallyPrime no. 245), so it was not sent again. If it really is a second entry, open it and send it.”
Where you see it: The progress card after Save on Accounts > Bank Statement Import or Accounts > Bank Reconciliation, and in Accounts > Activity History.
This statement line, with the same date, amount and balance, was saved in this company before. It may have come through this connection or another one. It was held back to avoid a double entry. Nothing was added to TallyPrime for these lines.
- 1
Look in TallyPrime for the earlier entry. Use the date and voucher number in the message.
- 2
If it is there, nothing is needed: this was a repeat.
- 3
Is it really a second, separate transaction? Open it in Accounts > Activity History. Choose Fix & retry and save it.
Next time: Overlapping statements are safe to upload; repeats are always held back.
“Saved from here, but TallyPrime did not confirm it. Look for it in TallyPrime. It is not saved again from here.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, the Check first tab. The line cannot be ticked.
This line was saved before, but the answer from TallyPrime was lost. Balancely cannot tell if it was saved. It is held back so it is never entered twice. TallyPrime may or may not have the entry. Nothing more is saved from this page.
- 1
Open the Day Book in TallyPrime for that date and look for the amount.
- 2
If the entry is there, nothing more is needed.
- 3
If it is not there, open Accounts > Activity History, open that entry and choose view import.
- 4
Choose Save failed entries again. It is saved as the same entry, so it cannot go in twice.
It worked when: Choose Check again on Bank Statement Import. The line moves to Already in books.
Next time: Failed entries keep their details for 14 days, so resend within that time.
“The Suspense ledger could not be added.”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, red box above Save, after using Put in Suspense.
The company has no ledger under Suspense A/c, and TallyPrime refused to create one named Suspense. The text may give TallyPrime's own reason. Nothing was saved in TallyPrime.
- 1
In TallyPrime, go to Gateway of Tally > Create > Ledger. Create a ledger under Suspense A/c.
- 2
Back in Balancely, choose Check again.
- 3
Choose Save again.
It worked when: The lines go in and the progress card shows them saved.
“The entries were not saved”
Where you see it: Accounts > Bank Statement Import, Check & save step, red box above Save, or the count beside it.
The batch was refused before it reached TallyPrime. The text under the title gives the reason, such as a connection, plan or role message. Up to 500 lines go in one batch. Nothing from this batch was saved in TallyPrime.

Common questions
How do I import a bank statement into Tally?
Download the statement from net banking. Open Bank Statement Import in Balancely, choose the bank ledger and upload the file. Check the columns and the balance. Check the lines, and save them in TallyPrime.
Can I import a bank statement from Excel to Tally?
Yes. Excel (.xls and .xlsx) and CSV statements are read as they are. We remember the column layout for each bank.
Can I import a PDF bank statement into Tally?
Yes. A PDF with real text works. Net banking gives this kind. AI reads a scanned PDF of up to 30 pages. It counts against your scanned pages; the Free plan has 100 free, once. For a PDF locked with a password, save a copy without it first. Open it in Chrome or Edge, press Ctrl + P and choose Save as PDF.
Can I import a photo of a bank statement?
Yes. Upload a JPG, PNG or HEIC photo of one page, or take it with your phone on the page. AI reads it, we check its running balance, and it counts as one scanned page.
How do I enter a credit card statement in Tally?
Choose the card ledger, upload the card statement and choose A credit card. For a card ledger under a liability group, spends and refunds are saved as Journals. The bill payment from your bank is saved as a Payment.
Does it suggest ledgers with AI?
Yes, on paid plans. For lines your rules and remembered ledgers do not cover, AI suggests a ledger from your own TallyPrime ledgers. You accept or change each one. We remember what you save for next time.
Will it create duplicate entries?
No. Lines saved from here before are held back. If a line’s reference is already on a voucher of the same amount, it shows as already in TallyPrime. It is not saved.
What if the statement balance does not match?
Nothing can be saved until it adds up. The page names the first row that does not add up. Check the columns, or download the statement again.
